Ok, so I know Ross' Birthday is September 10th and it is now November 7th. I have some catching up to do for sure! Ross' Birthday just happened to fall on the night of our Campaigners kick-off for the school year. Some of you may be asking what is Campaigners? It is part of a Christian organization for youth called Young Life. Ross and I hadn't even heard of Young Life when we moved here, but it is one of the avenues that is used to reach kids for Christ here in Galena. Here are some things that happen through Young Life. There is Young Life Club twice a month. It is an hour of fast paced Skits, games, and fun with about 10 minutes at the end saved for a talk about some aspect of Jesus' life. Ross and I helped out with this for a bit, but wanted to go deeper with kids so started Campaigners with our good friends and missionaries from Germany, Martin and Silke. Martin and Silke were not here last year until later in the year, due to the flood and paperwork issues returning from Germany, so we had 3 lovely dorm staff helping us. This year we are excited to have Martin and Silke joining us again along with one of the dorm Counselors, Ineke. A Campaigners night usually consists of a home cooked meal for the kids, a game, and then Bible Study.
We started off this Campaigners year with a Bonfire on the beach (ok riverbanks but we call it beach) of the Yukon. Since I was busy getting stuff ready for all the kids, I didn't have much time to plan much for Ross. I did however find some time to bake a cake. It was fun to hear all the kids singing Happy Birthday to Mr. T! We enjoyed a devotional from Martin about making a U-turn and turning away from our sin.
